[RECOVERED] is an interactive recovery and storytelling device that recontextualizes the memories of images lost from corrupt memory cards via written text and homemade electronics.

[RECOVERED] is made of leftover fabric scraps and housed in a repurposed Altoids tin that replicates the red Sony Cybershot digital camera used almost daily throughout the artist’s adolescence. The two corrupt SD cards have been “repaired” with custom soldered pads and by inserting either one into the SD card slot on the bottom of the device, the deemed useless pieces of plastic and metal are now the key that unlocks memories like “XMAS ‘07” and “HIGH SCHOOL ‘06–’10” and can be cycled through by pressing the soft, left and right arrow buttons.

By salvaging the physical remains of objects that would have otherwise been trash, the digital and intangible are able to be preserved, even if in a different format.
